Initial situation
Starke + Reichert, an established IT system house, like many small and medium-sized companies, is confronted with the new requirements of generative artificial intelligence (AI). The introduction of generative AI, such as ChatGPT, offers both opportunities and risks. AI could jeopardize existing products, such as the Starke-DMS® document management system.

However, the company possesses great potential to transform these challenges into innovative solutions thanks to its extensive partner network and customer-oriented approach. The aim is to leverage generative AI to ease employees’ daily work by automating repetitive tasks. Of particular interest is the development of proprietary GPT agents to simplify internal workflows and automate routine activities.
Project aim

The GenKITS project aims to integrate generative AI into digitalization strategies, in particular by developing GPT agents for process optimization (e.g. e-mail composition, invoice recognition). Employees should also be able to create their own GPT agents,
so that they can decide for themselves which processes should be improved by AI. To this end, re-skilling and up-skilling measures should provide employees with the necessary skills and tools in the area of data preparation and processing. A special GPT orchestrator is to be designed to control the development of generative AI use cases and manage various agents. The overarching goal is to establish an AI culture in small and medium-sized enterprises that enables continuous improvement of processes through the use of GPT agents.

Results and Application Potential
Following successful piloting, the solutions developed will also be made available to SR’s partner companies. In addition, the research project shows great potential for application by specifically qualifying specialists in the field of AI technologies. By using no- and low-code approaches, employees can be trained directly in their working environment, thereby expanding their skills in dealing with generative AI. Instead of replacing human workers, the working method is supported by augmented work, which leads to a more sustainable and efficient use of AI.
